Memory of Haiti
January 17, 2010

Needless to say, the world witnessed one of the saddest disasters in our lifetime in Haiti last week. We lived in Haiti for 2 years and we have a very special connection with Haiti. So it was devastating when we heard the news. We don't know if our Haitian mother, Chloe, who took care of us during our time there is safe. We can't contact her.

My favorite Haitian food Chloe cooked for us was Haiti's special new year soup called soup joumou. It is a pumpkin soup that is a little spicy with lots of beef. Sometimes they put spaghetti in it to add some extra starch. We asked her to cook soup joumou many times even though it was not new years. And it is really good. I tried to made my own a couple of times but I could not figure out how she made it so tasty with so few ingredients as she did. We miss her and her soup joumou. Our thoughts are with her and her family and we hope to hear good news soon.

If you have not done it yet, please help Haiti by donating whatever you can. You can make a $10 donation by texting 'Haiti' to 909999 to the American Red Cross or go to the CNN website to find other organizations that you can trust.
