14 & U - Farmer's Market
July 2009

Our new neighborhood is home to a reletively new 14 & U farmer's market every Saturday. On our first Saturday morning, I headed to the market. It is not as established as Freshfarm Markets in places like Dupont Circle or Eastern Market, but there are many wonderful vendors selling beautiful produce. It was really hard for me to resist buying everything I saw. Here is a glimpse of my shopping carts:

July 11
Fresh eggs, yellow corn, summer squash, heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, white peaches, olive oil buns, baby arugula and mesclun mix.

July 18
Baby artichoke, hot pepper, tomatillo, purple potatoes, zucchini blossoms, cherry tomatoes, goat cheese and watermelon.

July 25
Blueberries, plum tomatoes, red onion, bell peppers, lemongrass, cucumbers and pastries.

I cooked many things with these wonderful ingredients over the last three weeks. Ricotta cheese stuffed zucchini blossoms and watermelon and tomatillo gazpacho were my favorites.

I receive an online newsletter for the market every Thursday. They give you a lot of information for each upcoming market, including the produce expected and vendor recipes. If you are regular at 14 & U, I recommend you sign up for their newsletter.
