Global Feast : New York
Best of November 2013
November 30, 2013

November was a good month. We did not go out much but we went to some great places.

Restaurant Stars Note
Soba Totto three stars Food was not bad but just average.
Peix Bar de Mariscos 4 stars If you don't like to be squeezed in at the restaurant, this is not a place for you but the service and food could totally make up for it.
Peasant 4 stars Loved the rustic and warm atmosphere there. Food was also great.
Fedora 5 stars If I could give six stars, I would. Both food and service were the best for such a tiny restaurant. They make a great cocktail too.
Benoit 4 stars Old style French bistro. Very classy service and you feel very comfortable dining there. Very uptown.
Rustic L.E.S. 4 stars Another micro restaurant in LES with Moroccan theme. Famous for a lamb burger but the other food there was equally great. No full bar though.
The Modern Bar Room 4 stars First time to visit the same place for second time. This visit reassured me that The Modern Bar Room is an excellent place.
Blue Ribbon Sushi and Izakaya two stars Regrettable disappointment since I had a great time at the other Blue Ribbon in Columbus Circle.
Fat Radish 4 stars Unless it is a vegan restaurant, it is hard to get a great selection of vegetables at restaurants. Fat Radish offers excellent vegetable selections besides the equally wonderful non-vegetable dishes.

The best restaurant for November 2013 goes to Fedora. I went there with my family for a pre-theater dinner. We did not have time for a long meal so we asked our waiter for her suggestions and everything she suggested was exquisite. We shared fried sweetbreads, shiitake and chanterelles with poached egg, fingerling potato salad and then glazed stuffed cabbage with rabbit ragu and escargots which became the best dish of this month. If I go back there, I will ask for the double size (Can you make a main course size, please!).

I have never been disappointed with the quality of waiter in NYC so far. They all work hard so it is such a difficult challenge to pick the best one but our waitress at Fedora was one of my favorite so far. So the impromptu best waiter of the month award goes to her which means they got three crowns! Fedora will be the place to go whenever we go to see the movie at IFC. I can't wait to go back.
